Once the Dekorgrip was down the effect was FANTASTIC! The excess material was swept up and once I repeated this a few days later there was no loose material. Sweeping leaves and even snow is so much easier now than with the previous gravel drive and yet a pleasing finish for a property in the country!

Over the years Health and Safety has become a major issue within the construction and civil engineering industry.

At L. Kattenhorn & Partners Limited we take our Health & Safety very seriously.

We manage all of our Health & Safety requirements in house to ensure we can constantly ensure our employees safety as well as that of others that may be in close proximity of our works. We directly employ a Health & Safety advisor in order to maintain the highest level in Health & Safety competence across the entire company.

David Kattenhorn is the director responsible for the Health & Safety at L. A. Kattenhorn & Partners Limited. David firmly believes in hazard avoidance and is committed to ensuring that neither his own workforce nor any other person including the environment may be harmed; now or in the future by any activity of the Company.

We are also members of various training & Health & Safety groups including the Hampshire Construction Training Association also known as The HCTA and the Hampshire Health, Safety and Environmental group also known as the HHSEG. Being members of such groups enables us to ensure we have the highest level of training and health and safety competence as well as observing other companies and how they are coping within their own industry. This ensures that as a company our methods are current within the industry of construction.

Over the last few years we have endeavoured to ensure that each of our workforce outside of the office have gained a CSCS & CPCS qualification certificate. This is a qualification that in the present working environment is very important. It ensures that the person who has gained the qualification is fluent in how to manage safe operations when on a site. It also ensures they have a basic idea of how to manage a potential accident or one that has already occurred when waiting for medical assistance. For the reason that not one site could be the same it is vital that our men have this CSCS card. A lot of larger contractors now insist each member of a workforce has it before they are even allowed access onto a site.

As a company we have achieved a Gold Standard from the Construction Skills Certification Scheme which means L. A. Kattenhorn & Partners Limited has at least 75% of its workforce registered under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.

We can provide all of our operative’s qualifications upon request before works on a site begin in order for larger contracts to be assured of our men’s capabilities and competence.

PPE: Personal Protective Equipment.

Personal protective equipment, also known as PPE, is also something that we require all of our operatives to be wearing at all times on site.

The basic equipment we require our operatives to be wearing on site is as follows:-

  • High visibility jacket/waistcoat with Kattenhorn logo.
  • High visibility Trousers (as required)
  • Hard Hat
  • Gloves
  • Ear/eye defenders as required.
  • Safety boots.

We also take a zero tolerance policy on personal protective equipment which ensures our operatives must be wearing it at all times.

The operatives are regularly equipped with new PPE as required, due to wear and tear on sites it is essential the PPE is maintained and well kept in order to protect our operative and supervisor’s safety. The PPE is all monitored closely within house.

Method Statement, Risk Assessment and COSSH.

In the present day most sites require written assessments of the job before work can begin.

We have our own health & safety advisor within house which ensures the contracts which require the necessary paperwork receives it before the works begin.

You can access a link to our generic paper work on our website.

Where these are generic, when an assessment is required it will be site specific where necessary for example when night work is to be completed we cannot operate in normal working hours so this would be altered to a site specific working hour as designated by the contractor.
